Mentor (Big Brother, Big Sister, or Cross-Gender Mentor)

WITH BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF WINNIPEG

Summary

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Winnipeg, a registered charity founded in 1969, is situated on Treaty One Territory in the center of Winnipeg. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Winnipeg has been facilitating youth mentoring programs for more than 50 years, empowering children and teens to realize their full potential as citizens and as individuals.

Our one-on-one and group mentoring programs offer young people a mentor, friend, and role model, creating a special and lasting connection. The youth then cultivate their minds to overcome difficulties like poor living situations, family violence, deteriorating mental health, problems in school, and identity concerns.

Role responsibilities:

Many children and young people in Canada battle societal hurdles and experience hardships in their daily lives such as poor living conditions, familial abuse, mental health risk factors, problems in education, and identity issues. These hazards can be minimized or even avoided with the help of a mentor, and young people are reminded that they can become anything they desire. The mentoring programs offered by Big Brothers and Big Sisters give kids and teenagers a mentor they can talk to and share their growing-up experiences with. Our skilled caseworkers assist in the development of a relationship between the mentor and the mentee through regular outings that are based on trust and shared interests. The result is a life-changing experience for both the mentor and the mentee.

Outings occur in the community or within our agency's activity space (located at 532 Ellice Avenue).
